He served during the Korean War and was awarded many medals, including, the Korean Service Medal, the UN Service Medal, and the National Service Defense Medal. He was known for his special toasts before Christmas Eve dinner that always included a hearty ‘na zdrowie.’ Their home was known as a gathering place for family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, playing cards, traveling and most importantly spending time with his four children and six precious grandchildren. He was a member of the 7393 VFW, a member of the Yorkville ZBA, and later became Chairman. Rich was a family man who was active in his children’s activities and sports as a referee for AYSO (soccer), Little League Coach, and President of the Yorkville Minor League. He retired in 2010 after nearly 40 years. On August 10, 1974, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Diane Chomka.
